Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy (IGNFA) was constituted in the year 1987 by renaming the erstwhile Indian Forest College, which was originally established in 1938 for training senior forest officers. It is situated in the New Forest campus of Forest Research Institute (FRI) on Chakrata Road (NH-72),five kilometers from Dehradun town. IGNFA is currently functioning as a Staff College for the officers of the Indian Forest Service (IFS).
IGNFA library collection is one of the best collections in the field of forestry, environment, wildlife conservation, eco-development, and its allied subjects in the country. Trained and friendly staff is always available to answer the queries to assist the readers. The library is fully computerized and issues & return is automated.
Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy library (erstwhile Indian Forest College Library) was set up in 1938 with stock of 845 books and 15 subscribed periodicals. With the passage of time, the library grew at a fast pace in order to cater to the ever increasing information needs of the training academy. It systematically and gradually grew as a collection of specialized reading materials such as books, periodicals, reference works, and serials in the areas of forestry, environment and wildlife. The main objective of library is to provide reading materials and current information to IFS probationers, faculty, In-service IFS officers, staff and participants of the various courses, workshops, seminars organized by the Academy.
IGNFA Library has a wide variety of collection to meet the requirements of different users.
Library has digital archives on the different activities, submitted dissertation and training lectures of audio/ video collections.
